Blight Infection Concept

Description

A deep-seated infection, simply called the Blight, spreads from the Chasm of the Abyss. Once it takes hold, there is no cure. Slowly it overtakes its victim, consuming them, until they are a husk of their former self. These demonic mutants are called Prowlers. The Rangers of Othaedal were hardest hit due to their proximity to the Chasm and their duties, which often take them into the wild overgrowth of the Blighted Woods. Now, the Pathfinders willingly take on the Blight. They use its transformative properties to give them monstrous strength and enhanced senses. The risk is that it could overtake them, and they lose themselves to it. While here is no cure, the Witches of the Deep brew a potion, something akin to liquid flame. It burns back the infection, keeps it at bay. Pathfinders either die early, or become the very things that they hunt. Here, is a working concept of what the Blight would look like if left unchecked.

This piece was sketched in Procreate using an iPad Pro. It presents original characters, creatures, and the world of In the Shadow of the Ancients. ItSotA is a comic project that I am working on with my husband, based on a tabletop roleplaying game campaign we ran over the course of years. It was a multifaceted adventure, that spanned multiple groups and branching storylines, and utilized Dungeons & Dragons, Dungeon World, Torchbearer, and Pathfinder.

Nicely done! So how does the infection spread? Is it something like radiation where the closer you are to it, the worse it gets (while still becoming worse with time) ? Or is it like a simple nick or cut gained while in the effected areas begins the process?
